Communication & Conflict Resolution

Effective communication is crucial because it serves as the foundation for creating a positive and inclusive learning environment. It enables teachers to build trust and strong relationships with students, fostering an atmosphere where students feel safe, valued, and motivated to engage in their education.

Effective communication among staff, parents and the broader school community, promotes collaboration, reduces conflicts, and enhances overall school culture, leading to a more supportive and productive environment.

Workshop Overview

Staff will gain evidence-based frameworks to enhance their existing knowledge, boosting their confidence and certainty in communication and conflict resolution.

This session draws on principles from non-violent communication (NVC) to prepare teachers to navigate conflicts, find resolutions, and improve their communication skills.

Research shows that applying NVC can lead to improved emotional intelligence, greater resilience in the face of conflict, and a reduction in the stress associated with challenging conversations. Participants will engage in real-world scenarios to practice handling difficult conversations, identify best practices for preventing workplace conflict, and implement proactive approaches to maintain harmony within the school environment.

This hands-on and practical workshop will explore the causes of workplace conflict and tension, deepening participants' understanding of these issues. Staff will develop clear conflict resolution strategies and gain insights into the behaviours of colleagues, students, and the broader school community, fostering empathy for diverse and challenging behaviours.

Participants will practice handling difficult conversations and identify best practices to prevent workplace conflict, focusing on a proactive approach. This will help deepen trust, understanding, and connection, ultimately improving school culture.

Who Are We?

Youth Engagement Project is a not-for-profit organisation that provides support for educators, students, and youth organisations. We are on a mission to transform the landscape of youth engagement and ensure that young people feel prepared, engaged and empowered to take ownership of their lives when they step outside the school gates.

Our professional learning sessions have been designed by teachers, for teachers. As educators, we understand the importance of effective professional learning that supports staff with relevant tools and strategies without adding to their workload.  Youth Engagement Project workshops are tailored, engaging, and empowering for educators, building on the existing strengths and expertise of teaching staff.

Our facilitators are all trained and experienced educators who prioritise establishing connection, building an environment of trust, and using real-world examples and storytelling to strengthen reliability and ensure key messages are delivered meaningfully.
