Youth Public Speaking Workshops for Local Government

Our public speaking workshops are designed to help young people find their voice and thrive in any setting - from community consultations to Youth Advisory Group meetings, council presentations, and beyond.

Led by experienced facilitators, these interactive sessions build courage, communication, clarity, and connection. Through practical activities and tailored coaching, participants learn how to structure compelling arguments, present with confidence, and adapt their delivery to engage diverse audiences.

Why it matters
For many young people, standing up to speak in front of others is daunting - yet their voice is essential in shaping community decisions. Research shows that up to 75% of people fear public speaking, which means most young people in your advisory or leadership groups will need targeted support to build this skill. Our workshops give them the tools and confidence to move past fear and speak with purpose.

What participants gain:

  • Confidence to share their perspectives in council or community forums

  • Strategies for preparing and practising presentations

  • Techniques for engaging audiences in both formal and informal settings

  • Lifelong communication skills that extend into education, employment, and civic participation

Ideal for:

  • Youth Advisory Groups and Youth Councils

  • Community leadership programs

  • Young people representing the council at events or consultations

  • Youth forums, summits, and public meetings

These workshops ensure that young voices are not only invited to the table but are empowered to be heard - with clarity, confidence, and impact.

Learn More About Our Workshops:

  • Our public speaking and oral presentation workshops are hands-on and interactive. They require students to step out of their comfort zones and embrace their growth zones. Students will practice the soft and hard presenting skills taught throughout the workshop.

Our workshops focus on teaching the 4C Framework of Public Speaking.

The 4C Framework is a model to equip young people with the mindset and skillset for confident, clear, and connected communication.

    • Courage

    • Communication

    • Clarity

    • Connection

Our workshops empower youth to manage nerves, express themselves authentically, structure ideas with purpose, and engage their audience meaningfully.

Beyond public speaking, the 4C Framework lays the foundation for leadership, self-expression, and confidence.

  • Many hard and soft skills will be taught throughout the workshop including:

    • Effective audience engagement tips and tricks

    • Mastering non-verbal communication: How to control body, voice and breath

    • Using the space and hand gestures purposefully and effectively

    • Building trust and connection with the audience

    • Management of nerves and self-regulation during presentations

    • Overcoming Filler Words: Minimising "um," "uh," and other filler words to improve fluency.

    • Self-Reflection and Growth: Practising self-evaluation to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
